Introduction to AeroSpace 02

OPENING QUESTION:

We'll spend some time talking about THIS aircraft. Talk with your group to identify BOTH the actual name of the plane and the TYPE of aircraft too!

When do you suppose it flew?

lt was by far the LARGEST passenger plane in the world.

Notice how few passengers it held. What does THAT indicate?

LEARNING GOAL FOR TODAY:

I will continue studying our list of 20th Century Aircraft during today's class.

I will work with my group to analyze world changing events that influenced aircraft design in the 20th century during today's class.

WORDS O' THE DAY:

CALENDAR:

WORK O' THE DAY:

Our own MOST gracious AND humble TA Grace has provided you with an aircraft Quizlet HERE

Next week's quiz will cover: The name of the aircraft, the decade it flew, what it did, and why it was significant (basically everything shown on the Jeopardy Slides)

The photo-list of planes is HERE

Let's talk about our presentations and such now too! The rubric is HERE

Now let us go way, way back to the FIRST decade of the 20th Century: 1900 - 1910.

To put that era in context:

  • Henry Ford was just starting up production of his famous "Model T" car
  • The 2nd Olympic Games were held in St Louis in 1904
  • WWI was getting VERY close
  • Two bicycle mechanics from Ohio were the first humans to fly a controlled aircraft

Notice how that basic design changed in <HOW MANY?> years between that plane and THIS plane:

And then how long between THAT plane and

THIS Plane:
